Andrew Caldwell

Andrew Caldwell is The History Chef

Educated in an English monastic school, Andrew Caldwell elected to find a career that allowed him to travel the globe. He initially trained to be a chef from the early age of 13 in the Caribbean working his way up to Head Chef positions in Bermuda, Mexico and Hawaii before transitioning into resort management in America, the Caribbean, Europe and Africa. From King Tut’s tomb, Machu Picchu, Hadrian’s Wall to the pirate haunts of the Caribbean his passion for learning history combined with cooking has taken him to over sixty countries. Part historical narrative and part grilling guide and cookbook, Their Last Suppers, Legends of History and Their Final Meals tells the stories of legendary personalities of time, their lives. and culminates with the recipe for their last meals. The Presidents’ School is his first novel.
Since childhood Andrew has been fascinated by history, and all his life he has taken every opportunity to visit castles, pyramids, tombs and battlefields to learn everything about the past and the events that shaped us. Thirty five years after the adventure started he found himself combining food and history in THIER LAST SUPPERS, LEGENDS AND THEIR FINAL MEALS a trilogy of books about famous people, how they died and the recipe for their final meal. Andrew came up with a formula to identify characters for the books, nobody dies in their sleep, their death had to be a headline maker worldwide, they had to do something silly, funny or tragic and they had to have a good last meal.
Amazed at how little history is taught to children today, learning about the past prepares us for our future, seeing how the conflicts today are rooted in history gives us a better understanding and can help us find lasting solutions.
All the menus are tried and tested so you can prepare them in your kitchen with confidence and many restaurants have already served theme dinners and banquets from the books. Menus from as far back as 2000 years are delicious and can mostly be prepared on a barbeque grill, providing great conversation pieces at your next dinner party.
Cheers!
